Ear Candling
Ear candling may help treat ear aches and alleviate symptoms of sinus conditions. It seems to draw out excess build-up of wax in the ear. An ear candling treatment generally takes about an hour.
People have come to me asking for an ear candling treatment for a variety of reasons including blocked ears, impaired hearing, pressure in the head, constricted throat and sinus problems, saying that their issue in the past has been cleared up with one ear candling treatment. Many report that their issue returns in cold weather or after they have travelled in an aeroplane. In some situations multiple treatments are required to manage the condition, like the child spoken of in the following testimonial:
"My 22 month old, who experienced severe separation anxiety, was not babbling or talking but instead making monotone sounds. He often had periods where he would rub his ears a lot. The doctors kept telling me that I needed to get his ears cleaned out because they couldn't see into his eardrum to see if there was an infection. For some reason that I do not recall, the doctor would not syringe his ears, and referred me to the pharmacist. The pharmacist gave me a number of products but none of them worked within the time frame of safe use for the products. When my son's hearing was tested I was told that he could hear enough to learn to speak, but I was in the room with him during the test and he only responded to about 4 of the sounds that they played over about 20 minutes. I came across ear candling and decided to try it myself before I tried it on my son. I experienced deep relaxation during my session, and no other sensations except a soft creaky sound deep in my ears. Afterwards my ears and throat felt very clear, as did my sinus. I decided to try it with my son to see if it would assist his hearing and clear the wax that the doctors were saying was in his ears. I found a knowledgeable and experienced therapist who carefully gave my son his ear candling treatment while he was lying on my tummy. Unusually, my son was very quiet, peaceful and still throughout the treatment. He seemed to be listening intently to things that we could not hear. After the first treatment there was no change in his behaviour, so the therapist suggested another session a week later. After that second treatment my son became very sensitive to noises. This settled over about a month and his response to noises and verbal cues became more age appropriate. His separation anxiety reduced and was no longer an issue. After a couple of weeks he started babbling and within a couple of months was talking. I think it took him about 5 months to begin speaking age appropriately. When he started rubbing his ears and indicating he couldn't hear properly I would do another ear candling for him. He would need it more often in colder weather. I took him back to the doctor regularly to check his ears, and the doctor continually reported that he could see the eardrum clearly and he could detect no sign of damage anywhere in the ear canal (I think he just assumed that the product the pharmacist had suggested had been successful, I didn't ever tell him otherwise). If it were not for the ear candling I think the excess buildup of ear wax would have stopped my son from hearing properly forever."
