Be Better With Bowen

Social Distancing & Infection Control

During the Caronavirus Pandemic, it is really important that you take responsibility for where you go and what you do.  At present the government is encouraging people to stay at home unless it is necessary.  If you decide to attend an appointment it would be wise for you to satisfy yourself that the place you are attending practices social distancing and infection control to a level of which you are satisfied.  If you think that the place does not meet your expectations there is no point complaining and expecting them to change - they're doing their best.  Do your homework before you make the appointment, and if they fall short simply do not book in.

Bowen Therapy is a manual therapy in which I touch you, therefore we cannot practice social distancing.  I can treat through clothes, but this touch is still exposing not only my client and I to whatever germs or viruses we carry, but exposing my future clients to them as well.  No matter what Social Distancing and Infection Control procedures I put in place, I cannot expect to wash myself and every person and their clothes in warm soapy water to ensure that the virus does not contaminate something.  Attending an appointment with me, or anyone else for that matter, means that you are exposing yourself to the risk of contracting Covid-19.  Just as you are when you shop at the supermarket.

I urge you to be discerning about where you go and who you attend an appointment with.  I would particularly encourage my clients who are at a higher risk - those who live with high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, autoimmune disease, etc - to very carefully consider the appointments they attend.  Personally I would urge you to stay at home.  I have been working hard over the last month to be able to offer options for those who decide they need to stay home so that I may still be able to assist them.

To keep you, my other clients and myself as safe as I can, I have instigated the following protocols in my clinic, to take effect from Wednesday, 6th April 2020.  I would appreciate it if you would assist me by observing the guidelines during these unusual times.

  1. I am offering Postural Alignment sessions through Digital Therapy and Photo Therapy providing an option which I may help my clients to reduce chronic pain and improve functional mobility without the need to attend my clinic.
  2. I am also offering Distance Healing sessions incorporating Bowen Therapy, once again providing an option for my clients by which they may gain all the benefits of a Bowen treatment without the need to attend my clinic.
  3. I am offering Postural Alignment sessions through Personal Therapy to offer my clients a method through which they may reduce their chronic pain and improve functional mobility by attending my clinic but without me having to touch them, so that we can practice social distancing.
  4. Myself and one other person will be in my clinic at a time.
  5. When you arrive for your appointment please knock loudly on the door in the area below the door handle.  I suggest you use some material to buffer your hand so that you do not make skin contact with the door.  I will come out to see you as soon as I get the opportunity.
  6. I wish I could provide chairs and a blanket for you to sit on and keep warm with while you are waiting, but I just don't think that is such a good idea at this time.  The general public do help themselves to a seat on occasion, and I just can't monitor what is outside my clinic.
  7. Before you enter I will be taking your temperature (when my no-contact thermometer arrives) and asking you to sign a declaration saying that:
    1. You are feeling well, and have no symptoms of Covid-19.
    2. You have not been overseas within the last 2 weeks.
    3. In the last two weeks you have not been in contact with someone who had been overseas within the previous 2 weeks.
    4. In the last two weeks you have not been in contact with someone who has tested positive to Covid-19.
    5. In the last two weeks you have not been in contact with someone who thinks, or who you think, may have Covid-19.
  8. I reserve the right to refuse treatment should I think that, in treating a client, I would be exposing myself, that client or my other clients to infection of Covid-19.  If this occurs please do not take it personally.  I will be doing so for the highest good of all.
  9. Due to being unable to practice social distancing for Bowen Therapy I shall be wearing a mask, and I will provide a mask for you to use as well.
  10. We will both wash our hands - please do not touch the soap plunger or the tap, I will do all that for you, all you need to do is wash your hands.  Hand sanitiser will also be available for your use at any stage of your visit should you feel the need to use it.
  11. Please refrain from touching anything when you are in my clinic, apart from the massage table or any equipment required to perform any exercises involved in your session.  Please try to remember not to touch the door on your way in or out.
  12. I shall be staggering appointments to try to ensure there is no overlap of clients, however unforeseen circumstances may occur.  Please be patient and respectful of others.
  13.  Before each client I shall be wiping all surfaces to which you may come in contact with alcohol wipes to remove any bacteria, and wiping the massage table with a hot soapy cloth to remove any virus.  This may occur in the other therapy room during the pauses in your treatment.  Whilst I will be using two therapy rooms, this is to ensure that the massage table is clean and has time to dry for the next person, not to treat two people at once.  I reiterate the request to please be conscious not to touch anything while you are in the clinic unless you have to.
  14. Please place any personal effects in the tray provided rather than on the table or chairs.
  15. I will be using single use disposable covers on the massage table.
  16. At the end of your appointment you may pay on your phone either by you transferring the money directly into my bank account or by utilising the payment function on the client portal.  I incur a charge on payments through the client portal so would appreciate if you do a bank transfer, but the client portal option is provided for your convenience.  I will not be using the EFTPOS device to take payment.
  17. As you leave please allow me to get the door for you.
  18. I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.

I hope this gives you enough information upon which to base a decision about coming to see me.  My main concern with my clinic is that I cannot be really proactive about the carpet tiles on the floor.  Whilst I shall maintain the cleanliness of the floor, it remains the weakest link in my clinic.

Once again I urge you to be discerning and encourage you to stay at home to avoid infection.  Consider taking advantage of the non-contact options I am offering and if you decide you need to come in or to have a Digital Therapy treatment I look forward to seeing you.
