Bowen Therapy for Babies and Children

Gentle, natural support for growth, comfort and calm.

For parents who just want their little one comfortable againWhen a baby or child isn’t settled, the whole family feels it.
Broken sleep, constant crying, or a child who’s always tired, anxious or sore can leave parents exhausted and unsure where to turn.
Bowen Therapy offers a gentle, drug-free way to help the body unwind tension, settle its nervous system and find a more balanced rhythm again.

Bowen therapy for babies

Comfort for life’s earliest transitions

The journey into the world can sometimes leave a little body unsettled. Birth positioning, feeding challenges or digestive upsets may create tension that affects sleep, comfort or behaviour.   Bowen Therapy uses light, targeted moves, often while baby rests in a parent’s arms, that may help the nervous system and fascia soften and reorganise.

After Birth - resetting the body's start
Birth, no matter how it happens, is a big physical event.  Even in smooth deliveries the baby's body can hold tension that shows up later as discomfort, feeding difficulties or uneven movement.  A recovery from birth session helps the newborn's system "re-boot", easing small strains through the spine, neck and diaphragm so that breathing, feeding and digestion can settle more easily.  Many parents notice their baby seems more at peace afterwards, and home life becomes quieter too.

Digestive Comfort - colic, reflux and bowel rhythm
Colic and reflux can be heartbreaking. The constant crying and arching indicate extreme pain and we feel completely helpless watching it.  The sleepless nights affect everyone in the house.  Bowen’s light moves may help calm the baby’s nervous system and ease mechanical tension through the diaphragm and abdomen, allowing digestion to work more smoothly.  Irregular bowel motions often improve as the body’s rhythm steadies.
Feeding, Sleep and Early Development
Difficulty settling for feeding, or a baby who struggles to settle into deep sleep, often traces back to small imbalances in neck or cranial tension.  Bowen Therapy works gently with these areas, encouraging coordination and relaxation so feeding and sleeping can become easier.  Parents frequently notice a softer jaw, easier breathing and longer stretches of rest after treatment.

Sessions for babies are brief and completely led by their comfort.  Many parents notice their baby seems more relaxed, feeds more easily, or settles more calmly afterwards.

Bowen therapy for children

Helping active bodies stay balanced and calm

As children grow, their bodies are constantly adapting.  New sports, school bags, braces, screens, growth spurts and emotions all play a part.  Gentle Bowen moves may support healthy posture, coordination and a relaxed nervous system, giving the body room to move and the mind space to rest.

Growing Bodies - posture, pain and breathing
As children grow, they tumble, carry heavy bags, sit at screens and go through growth spurts that can leave their bodies out of sync.  Gentle Bowen sessions may help with posture, coordination, “growing pains,” and the tight chest or shoulders that sometimes mimic asthma-like symptoms.  When the body moves more freely, breathing often follows suit, bringing calm to child and household.

Ears, Learning and Behaviour
Children who are constantly battling ear, nose or throat congestion often struggle to concentrate or sleep.  By helping drainage and balance through the head and neck, Bowen Therapy may reduce that pressure and the restlessness that comes with it.  Parents also notice that children prone to anxiety, learning or behavioural challenges often become calmer and more focused once their nervous system is less overstimulated.

Support During Orthodontic Changes
Braces and orthodontic work can place new tension through the jaw, neck and even the rest of the body.  Bowen’s gentle balancing moves may ease discomfort, help adaptation and keep posture aligned while these changes take place.

Each child responds in their own way.  The work is subtle, deeply relaxing, and may help them feel more centred and “back to themselves” again.

What a session looks like

  • Babies stay clothed and can feed, nap or play while I work; sessions are usually 10–20 minutes.
  • Children’s sessions last a little longer but remain quiet, light and guided by their comfort.
  • Parents stay close at all times — most little ones treat it as peaceful playtime.

Safety and care

Bowen Therapy is non-invasive and suitable for all ages.  It may complement medical or allied-health care, and parents are encouraged to continue any existing treatments or check-ups as advised by their health professionals.

A word from Prue

“As a mum, I’ve seen how quickly children can change when their bodies get the right message.  Bowen Therapy gives them that chance.  It's helped my boys with bed wetting, growing pains, coordination, gait issues, sporting injuries, anxiety, difficulty sleeping as well as focus and concentration for learning and study.  Remarkably it eased the discomfort of orthodontic treatments and sped up that process.  I just with I knew about it for their reflux and colic!  It's gentle, natural, and without stress for anyone involved.”
